The annual RIXC Art Science Festival, held from September 20–22, 2023, in Riga, Latvia, focused on artificial intelligence, NFT art, and crypto and blockchain technologies. It explored how the new generation of internet technologies (also known as Web 3.0*) is reshaping the landscape of art and culture in the context of one of today’s major global challenges – climate change.
On Thursday, September 21, 2023, the opening of SensUs. Augmented Nature-Cultures Augmented Reality (AR) Exhibition took place at the Latvian National Museum of Natural History, followed by a guided tour through Riga’s Esplanade Park.
The SensUs AR exhibition featured 8 virtual artworks created by artists from Riga (Latvia) and Karlsruhe – Jung Eun Lee, Isabella Münnich, Anna Manankina, Jurģis Peters, Sabīne Šnē, Rihards Vītols, Zane Zelmene.
The exhibition curators Daria Mille, Rasa Smite and Raitis Smits invited the artists to use augmented reality (AR) to make visible the invisible processes in urban nature, explore the symbiotic relationship between social and ecological systems, and trace the historical and contemporary trajectories of nature-culture sites in the city.

Das jährliche RIXC Art Science Festival, das vom 20. bis 22. September 2023 in Riga, Lettland, stattfand, konzentrierte sich auf künstliche Intelligenz, NFT-Kunst sowie Krypto- und Blockchain-Technologien. Es untersuchte, wie die neue Generation von Internettechnologien (auch bekannt als Web 3.0*) die Landschaft von Kunst und Kultur im Kontext einer der größten globalen Herausforderungen unserer Zeit – dem Klimawandel – neu gestaltet.
Am Donnerstag, den 21. September 2023, fand die Eröffnung der SensUs. Augmented Nature-Cultures Augmented-Reality-(AR)-Ausstellung im Lettischen Nationalen Naturkundemuseum statt, gefolgt von einer geführten Tour durch den Esplanade-Park in Riga.
Die SensUs-AR-Ausstellung präsentierte 8 virtuelle Kunstwerke, die von Künstler:innen aus Riga (Lettland) und Karlsruhe geschaffen wurden – Jung Eun Lee, Isabella Münnich, Anna Manankina, Jurģis Peters, Sabīne Šnē, Rihards Vītols, Zane Zelmene.
Die Kurator:innen der Ausstellung, Daria Mille, Rasa Smite und Raitis Smits, luden die Künstler:innen ein, Augmented Reality (AR) zu nutzen, um die unsichtbaren Prozesse in der urbanen Natur sichtbar zu machen, die symbiotische Beziehung zwischen sozialen und ökologischen Systemen zu erforschen und die historischen sowie gegenwärtigen Entwicklungen von Natur–Kultur-Orten in der Stadt nachzuzeichnen.
