About Light Resonances AR
Light Resonances AR is an Augmented Reality experience within Symbiotic Cities, an extended-reality project that imagines a speculative, symbiotic smart ecosystem where natural and digital intelligences coexist.
Created by Rasa Smite & Raitis Smits, with sound artist Krista Dintere, the work visualizes and sonifies subtle exchanges between plants and light. Six multispectrally scanned 3D plants gradually shift from natural RGB coloration into spectral forms aligned with non-human perceptual worlds. Their soundscapes evolve accordingly—from field recordings to sonified translations of spectral data—revealing patterns of light absorption, pigment-driven coloration, photosynthetic activity, and plant vitality.
These resonances of light make visible and audible the delicate processes through which plants transform light into life, offering an experiential entry point into imagining symbiotic futures across naturally–artificial urban environments.
The showcase is curated by Daria Mille (NAIA, Karlsruhe) as part of Smart Picnic: Sensing the City, curated by Seungah Lee (Urban Art Lab, Seoul) at the Miro Center, Gwangju.
Connection to SensUs Karlsruhe
In parallel with the Light Resonances AR presentation in Gwangju and the Metaverse, the NAIA in Karlsruhe is organizing a local showcase of artworks from the SensUs: Symbiotic Cities project taking place as a part of SensUs Studio Opening Program on Thursday, December 5, at 19.00 at Lessingstr. 25, 76135 Karlsruhe (just 8 minutes walk from ZKM).

About the SensUs XR Showcase
The event marks the opening of the SensUs Studio and presents a selection of works on the SensUs Art XR platform, an immersive ecological art environment co-curated by NAIA (Karlsruhe) and RIXC (Riga). The platform is developed in close collaboration with partners in Canada, Taiwan, and the Baltic–Nordic region.
The SensUs Art XR platform features multimedia 3D and spatial sound works by artists including Yuchin Chen, Jung Eun Lee, Anna Manankina, Isabella Münnich, Jurģis Peters, Oleksandr Sirous; Krista Dintere; Sabīne Šnē, Ivo Tauriņš; Tuan Mu, Rodolphe Macabéo, Rihards Vitols, Zane Zelmene reflecting an expanding network dedicated to ecological and symbiotic futures through immersive art.

Light Resonances AR
Light Resonances AR ist ein Augmented-Reality-Erlebnis innerhalb von Symbiotic Cities – einem Extended-Reality-Projekt – das ein spekulatives, symbiotisches und intelligentes Ökosystem vorstellt, in dem natürliche und digitale Intelligenzen koexistieren.
Das von Rasa Smite & Raitis Smits in Zusammenarbeit mit der Klangkünstlerin Krista Dintere geschaffene Werk visualisiert und sonifiziert subtile Wechselwirkungen zwischen Pflanzen und Licht. Sechs multispektral gescannte 3D-Pflanzen wandeln sich allmählich von natürlichen RGB-Farben zu spektralen Formen, die mit nicht-menschlichen Wahrnehmungswelten übereinstimmen. Ihre Klanglandschaften entwickeln sich von Feldaufnahmen bis hin zu akustischen Übersetzungen spektraler Daten und offenbaren Muster der Lichtabsorption, pigmentbedingter Färbung, photosynthetischer Aktivität und Pflanzenvitalität.
Diese Resonanzen des Lichts machen die empfindlichen Prozesse sichtbar und hörbar, durch die Pflanzen Licht in Leben umwandeln, und bieten einen erfahrbaren Einstieg in die Vorstellung einer symbiotischen Zukunft in natürlich-künstlichen städtischen Umgebungen.
Die Ausstellung wird von Daria Mille (NAIA, Karlsruhe) im Rahmen von „Smart Picnic: Sensing the City” kuratiert, das von Seungah Lee (Urban Art Lab, Seoul) im Miro Center in Gwangju kuratiert wird.

Parallel zur AR-Präsentation von Light Resonances in Gwangju und im Metaverse organisiert NAIA in Karlsruhe eine lokale Ausstellung mit Kunstwerken aus dem Projekt SensUs: Symbiotic Cities im Rahmen des SensUs Studio Opening Programms am Donnerstag, den 4. Dezember, um 19 Uhr in der Lessingstr. 25, 76135 Karlsruhe (nur 8 Gehminuten vom ZKM entfernt).

SensUs XR Showcase
Diese Veranstaltung umfasst die Eröffnung des SensUs Studios und eine Präsentation einer Auswahl von Werken auf der SensUs Art XR-Plattform, einer immersiven ökologischen Kunstumgebung, die gemeinsam von NAIA (Karlsruhe) und RIXC (Riga) kuratiert wird. Die Plattform wurde in enger Zusammenarbeit mit Partnern in Kanada, Taiwan und der baltisch-nordischen Region entwickelt.
